Improved 3D viewer navigation

What it is

Visionhub’s 3D viewer (Digital twin module) lets you load IFC models and point clouds of your site. This update improves two things: the positioning of georeferenced models and the way you move through the scene.

Correct positioning of georeferenced models

If your IFC carries real geographic coordinates (for example, UTM coordinates taken on site), the model now appears exactly where it should relative to the point cloud and the rest of the project elements. Previously, some models with this type of georeferencing could appear displaced several kilometers from their real position.

This fix applies automatically to models you’ve already uploaded — you don’t need to upload them again. New models you upload from now on are also processed correctly from the start.

Camera navigation

  • Automatic framing on import: when you load a model (IFC or point cloud), the camera automatically flies to it. Previously, some small models or models far from the origin were left out of view and had to be found manually.
  • More precise orbit: when you click on a point of the model, the camera rotation (orbit) now pivots around that point instead of a fixed center. This lets you zoom in and move around any area of the model without getting “stuck” far from the surface.
  • Renewed walkthrough mode: with walkthrough mode enabled, you can click on any point of the floor or a surface to move there with a smooth transition, staying at a fixed height above the point you clicked. A ring on the floor marks the destination point before you move.
  • More stable zoom in walkthrough mode: when adjusting zoom (field of view) while walking through the model, the camera no longer jumps or changes position abruptly — zooming is now a smooth, predictable transition.

These gestures work on both IFC models and point clouds.

How to use it

  1. Open the Digital twin module of your project and load or select a model.
  2. The camera automatically frames the loaded model.
  3. Click on any point to orbit around it, or enable walkthrough mode from the toolbar and click on the floor to move around.

Known limitations

  • On very small models, the camera’s minimum zoom distance may prevent zooming in fully flush with the surface.
  • When exiting walkthrough mode, the zoom range is temporarily widened for the rest of the session; this doesn’t affect the model’s position, only the available zoom margin.
